Please God and Find Peace

“I don’t know the definition to success, but the definition of failure is trying to please everybody else.” ~~ Bill Cosby

2 Timothy 4:3

"For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching.   They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear."

The other day, I saw Lady Gaga on a T.V. show, and being sorta 'old', I just didn't 'get it'.  Oh, I can close my eyes and listen to most of her music, and she has a nice singing voice.  However, she did say something which got my attention, even though I do not share the same thoughts on her 'life style'.  To paraphrase, she said that everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin (and I agree), and follow what makes them happy.  Of course, there we are back to 'if it feels good, do it', and that's not at all what I mean.

We have so many folks tugging on our coat tails to do this or that, that sometimes we forget to take a deep breathe, just relax, and really listen to the Holy Spirit and follow His lead.  If not, our peace is in serious jeopardy.

Proverbs 1:5

"Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.
Let those with understanding receive guidance
."

Hebrews 12:25

"Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!  "

Mark 4:9
"Then He said, 'Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand'.”

Romans 8:8
"That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God."

Yes, God wants us to be happy.  No, He doesn't like to see us in stress.  Yes, He wants us to follow The Ten Commandments - if not, He would never have given them to Moses to 'pass on'.  If we are living in God's peaceful arms, we have it 'made'.

Hope that you have a comforting and peaceful day. Maggie __________________________________________________________________

Peace at Home

"For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work." James 3:16

Have you ever noticed that the easiest place to remain self-centered is at home? There's an incentive
to
be lovely with others, but with your family you are tempted to allow yourself more selfish privileges as
if it didn't count there.

Before I was a Christian, I was more courteous and nicer to friends than to my own family. I was more demanding and less forgiving with those dearest to me than with anyone else.

But after I made Jesus Lord of my life, I realized all that had to change.

Gloria and I began to learn through the Word how important harmony is within our family. We learned that if we wanted the power of agreement (see Matthews 18:19) to work in our lives, we could not allow strife in our home.

Strife drops the shield of faith, stops prayer results, and invites Satan and his cohorts into your midst. Discord is deadly. It paralyzes the power of God in your life.

Don't allow the enemy to stop at your own front door by allowing strife in your home. If you do, you'll
be no threat to him anywhere else.

Put the power of harmony to work in your family.  Determine that.

Replacing Worry

Read Philippians 4:1-9

Many folks worry about things that never happen, like the patient in the mental hospital, holding his ear close to the wall, listening intently.  The attendant finally approached.

"Shhh!" whispered the patient, beckoning him over.

The attendant pressed his ear to the wall for a long time. "I can't hear a thing," he finally said.

"I know," replied the patient, "it's been like that all day!"

Paul wrote some of the earliest recorded advise for those who struggled with consuming worry. To combat disabling anxiety he exhorted the Philippian church to some positive praying and worship. Philippians 4:6 hits where many of us struggle; "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Peace in the heart (v. 7) and a closer walk with God is the result of replacing worry with prayer.

As people who believe God knows what He is doing, we can decide to replace our anxious thinking with the activities of prayer and thanksgiving. Praying with thanksgiving reminds us that God can do something about our impossible situations. It gives Him proper place in our lives while giving us a sense of Someone else bearing our trial with us.

So, would you rather worry today or let God do the worrying? Would you rather fret or pray? The choice is yours.
